When I took delivery of my Nordhavn 63, Karma, I needed to get up to speed quickly. Tyler and I spent more than 50 hours together working through the boat and how to run her properly. We covered systems, close-quarters maneuvering, piloting, navigation, rules of the road and aids, chartplotters, mooring, line handling, dinghy management, weather, cruise planning, emergency procedures, and a lot on vessel maintenance.

Tyler is a great instructor. He keeps things relaxed and conversational even when the topic is serious, which makes it a lot easier to actually absorb what you’re learning rather than just going through a checklist.

By the end of it I felt comfortable running Karma and had a much better understanding of the boat. If you’re moving up to a serious passagemaker and want solid, practical training, I’d highly recommend Tyler.

I have had the privilege of having Captain Tyler on my boat twice.  He was the delivery captain that took my boat off the ship at the port when she was brand new and again for a 3 day trip from Newport, RI to its home port in Atlantic City, NJ.  I could not have asked for a better, more knowledgable and easy to get along with person to make the trip with.  I never hesitate to recommend Tyler.  Fantastic guy and captain!

Captain Tyler was awesome. I haven’t been around boats for 20 years and Tyler helped with all of our training on our new to us Nordhavn 55. He is very knowledgeable and took his time teaching us not only about the systems but also about the routine maintenance required for each. He helped us order spares and gave us real world examples of mechanical/hydraulic/plumbing issues that may come up. He also trained us on piloting, dead reckoning and how to properly operate our Nordhavn 55. He made us feel very comfortable with the boat and docking it in tight spaces. He was very patient and has a heart of a teacher. I will definitely use him again when we upgrade to a 60+ footer. Thanks Captain!

Bringing a Nordhavn into your life is an exciting experience, but the systems and capabilities of these boats require the right guidance to truly understand and operate them with confidence. Having Captain Tyler onboard with us during our first weeks made all the difference. Tyler spent five days with us going through every system on the vessel in detail, explaining not just how things work, but how and why they are used in real-world cruising. His knowledge of the boat was exceptional, and he has a natural ability to explain complex systems in a way that is clear, practical, and easy to absorb. What we appreciated most was that Tyler didn’t just teach theory. He joined us on our first couple of trips, allowing us to put everything into practice while he coached and guided us along the way. That hands-on experience gave us the confidence that every new Nordhavn owner needs.

Tyler is professional, patient and very easy to communicate with. We genuinely enjoyed having him onboard and would highly recommend him to any owner looking for the right captain to help them learn their vessel the right way.
